Project to improve wastewater quality and protect wildlife
Costain has been awarded an £80m contract by Severn Trent Water to carry out environmental upgrades at 16 sites across the region. The work will be delivered over the next four years and will involve a range of projects, including:
Removing phosphorus from wastewater as part of the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP)
Protecting elvers (juvenile eels) from entering river water intake pipes as part of compliance with The Eels Regulations
Costain will use its environmental expertise to deliver the project, which will help to improve the quality of the region’s water and protect wildlife.
The contract is part of Severn Trent’s Capital Delivery Framework, which is a £1.8bn investment programme to upgrade the company’s water and wastewater infrastructure. The programme is designed to improve the reliability and resilience of the network, while also reducing environmental impact.
Costain is a leading UK engineering and construction company with a strong track record in delivering environmental projects. The company has worked on a number of high-profile projects in recent years, including the Thames Tideway Tunnel and the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station.
The Severn Trent contract is a significant win for Costain and further reinforces the company’s position as a leader in the environmental sector. The project will help to make a real difference to the quality of life for people in the Severn Trent region and will also contribute to the company’s own sustainability goals.
