Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council selects George Cox and Sons Ltd to deliver the £3 million project
Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council has announced the award of a new contract for the construction of the South Heywood Link Road Phase 2. The contract was awarded to George Cox and Sons Ltd, a civil engineering contractor based in Bolton.
The project involves the construction of a new road that will connect the existing South Heywood Link Road Phase 1 to Junction 19 of the M62 motorway. The project also includes the installation of drainage, lighting, signage, landscaping and other associated works.
The project is part of the council’s plan to improve the transport infrastructure and connectivity in the area, as well as to support the development of new housing and employment opportunities. The project is expected to be completed by March 2024.
The contract was awarded by direct award from the Stockport Framework, a pre-established framework agreement for highways related schemes. The council said that this was the best procurement route for the project, given its value and time constraints.
The council’s contact person for the project is Ellen Simpson, who can be reached at ellen.simpson@star-procurement.gov.uk. The council’s website is http://www.rochdale.gov.uk/
